In Kampala: Man shot at his home watching TV

A young man, Vincent Kalibwami, was shot at his home in Kivumbi zone, Nateete, as he watched television with his girlfriend.

The senseless murder was committed Monday night when a hooded man knocked at the the 26-year old's door and pumped a bullet in his chest.

Kalibwami (right) was an employee of Uganda Transport Agency located in Industrial Area.

The area LCI secretary, Fauster Namukasa, said the assailant knocked at Kalibwami's door while he was watching television and went to see who was knocking.
The assailant had drawn the curtain but retreated as Kalibwami went out to see who it was. As he approached him the unmistakeable sound of a gunshot rang out, felling him like a tree.
“Kalibwami's girlfriend whom we identified as Angella told us they were watching television the assailant knocked at the door and drew the curtain. When Kalibwami got up to see who it was he retreated outside. When the deceased went out he was shot in the chest,” Namukasa narrated.

She said they hurried to Kalibwami's house to rush him to hospital on a bodaboda but the LCI chairman, Steven Mulindwa, put him in his car and rushed him to Mulago, but unfortunately he died on arrival.

She added that a woman, Justine Nassaazi, cheated death when the fleeing assailant shot at her as she rushed to Kalibwami's home, but the bullet instead hit the ground.

“I was in the kitchen when I heard Kalibwami crying for help and thought he had been electrocuted so I rushed to see what was going on. I saw an armed man wearing a hood. He shot at me but the bullet hit the ground and I took off,” she said.

The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Ibin Ssenkumbi, said they were investigating the motive of the senseless murder. He  said they are interested in knowing more from the girlfriend because she had been away for two weeks and the murder coincided with her return.
Kalibwami's landlady, Constance Namirembe, said he hailed from Bukunda in Masaka and had been renting at hers for a year.

Police recovered two catridges at the crime scene and registered the case on file number SD:90/29/04/2013.
